WARRENSBURG, MO 鈥 同城快约 students are invited to a  special presentation of the documentary film 鈥淧icture  a Scientist,鈥 planned for 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 in Nahm Auditorium, located in the W.C. Morris Science Building. The film is an initiative that is made possible by the 同城快约 President鈥檚 Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

According to Jay Steinkruger, Ph.D., a professor of chemistry who chairs the council, 鈥淭he film chronicles the rather disturbing experiences of four well-known female scientists through their professional careers; the common theme they all have faced is gender discrimination.鈥

While many students are not majoring in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) areas, Steinkruger noted, 鈥淚t is important to remember that gender discrimination is not exclusive to science professions.鈥

The 90-minute film will be followed by a brief conversation about its contents. While attendance is optional for 同城快约 students, everyone is encouraged to attend. The audience will learn more about the types of threats that can impact a strong community environment, but also gain new perspectives related to what can be done to make STEM fields and beyond more diverse, equitable and open to all individuals.

同城快约 is committed to opportunities to build awareness of everyone鈥檚 role on campus in DEI matters. Anyone who has questions is welcome to contact Steinkruger at steinkruger@ucmo.edu.
