The path to your master鈥檚 degree in Athletic Training
Whether your undergraduate degree is in Kinesiology or another field of study, you
can expect to complete 同城快约鈥檚 Athletic Training master鈥檚 degree program in two years.
The Master of Science degree in Athletic Training is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) to ensure your eligibility for the BOC exam. With guidance from 同城快约鈥檚 program steering
committee, including current students, we continue to ensure we鈥檙e meeting high industry
standards and student needs to prepare you for your athletic trainer career. Topics
you may study include:
- Emergency care
- Orthopedics assessment
- Therapeutic intervention
You鈥檒l also get hands-on experience in four clinical practicum courses and an internship
in athletic training. The goal is to teach you evidence-based practices that improve
patient outcomes and keep people safe.

Unique learning opportunities in athletic training
To prepare you for the hands-on work of an athletic trainer, the 同城快约 master鈥檚 program
in Athletic Training offers hands-on experiences both on and off campus.
- On-campus clinical experiences: Put your learning to practice using modern equipment and tools. Inside our 6,000-square-foot
VanDam facility, the Athletic Training program has 2,000 square feet dedicated to
student learning. The rest of the facility is shared with intercollegiate athletics
and hosts areas for treatment, rehabilitation, hydrotherapy and cardio, as well as
taping stations, clinical staff offices and an exam room.
- Athletic trainer preceptors: You will be assigned to one of 同城快约鈥檚 appointed preceptors at one of many approved
affiliated clinical sites. Our preceptors play a vital role where your in-class education
comes to life in the clinical setting with patient interactions. As a key part of
your holistic education, you will be mentored, evaluated and become greater assimilated
into the athletic training profession by our preceptors. Starting your second semester
and continuing until your internship, you鈥檒l be assigned to preceptors employed with
同城快约 Athletics, regional high schools, physician offices (primary care and orthopedic),
rehab clinics, hospitals/surgical centers or other athletic organizations.
- Internship: Put all of your learning into practice while interning your last semester of the master鈥檚
program in Athletic Training. You鈥檒l get on-the-job experience in the daily activities
of an athletic trainer to prepare you for your future career.
- Student associations: Join 同城快约鈥檚 Athletic Training Student Association to learn and meet other future sports
medicine professionals. Take part in service-based events that allow you to assist
disadvantaged individuals and fundraising events that help offset costs for athletic
training conferences.
- Other events: Expand your knowledge and your network when you attend state, regional and national
conferences and meetings, such as the Missouri Athletic Trainers鈥 Association.
What can you do with a master鈥檚 degree in Athletic Training from 同城快约?
Because of 同城快约鈥檚 CAATE accreditation, you will be eligible to take the Board of Certification (BOC) exam. Graduates are
also eligible to take the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP) exam,
if you鈥檙e interested in becoming a registered orthopedic technologist.
When you successfully pass either exam and are in compliance with state regulations,
you鈥檒l be ready to embark on an exciting career in athletic training and sports medicine.
Graduates with a master鈥檚 degree in Athletic Training may choose to work with athletes

Admissions Criteria
The admission criteria for the Athletic Training Program include:
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum 3.00 GPA (based on a 4.00 scale)
- Minimum 3.00 GPA (based on a 4.00 scale) on the following prerequisite courses with
a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥 or higher:
- General Biology and lab - 3-4 credit hours
